Obituary for Douglas Franklin Cummins MD

Dr. Douglas Franklin Cummins passed away Thursday August 3, 2017 at the age of 78.

Doug was born in Terre Haute, IN to Douglas Parvin and Luana Kaufman Cummins December 2, 1938.

A graduate of Indiana State University and Indiana University Medical School, Doug was an anesthesiologist at Wishard Memorial Hospital for 36 years, retiring in 1996.

Doug served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines from 1967 - 1969. He was a member of the Terre Haute Masonic Lodge #573 and The Murat Shrine Club.

On August 25, 1962 Doug married his beautiful bride Roberta Utterback. (Bert), she survives. They enjoyed traveling with their friends to Maine, Tennessee, Arizona and Mexico. Their favorite trip was the European river cruise and visiting their daughter, Tammy, in Asia.

His daughters Tammy and Andi brought him so much joy. He loved to travel the country watching them in the Center Grove Band and Color Guard and Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps.

Tammy and her husband Joe Fitter and their boys Ethan Douglas and Nolan Louis live in Bloomington, IN where Papaw loved having dinner with them at Zagrebs. Andi and her husband Dan Solero have two children, Tyler Douglas and Carlee Coleen of Plainfield, who were thrilled to have Papaw and Grams move around the corner for Wednesday Night Ice Cream. He also leaves behind his dear cousin Jackie Louis of Phoenix, AZ.

In lieu of flowers it was Doug’s request that donations be made to Jonnie’s Goodguys, a non profit organization created by his daughter, Andi, that provides aortic and heart health education and support.

We will remember him fondly at his favorite spot at Rocky Fork Lake.

Visitation and remembrance will be held Sunday August 6, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jonnie's Goodguys at www.jonniesgoodguys.org
