Obituary for
Julia A. Medley (Schonthaler)
Julia A. Schonthaler Medley, aged 92, died peacefully on February 2, 2017 at her home in Martinsville, Indiana. The daughter of Katherine “Kadie” Uhli and Nicholas Schonthaler, Julia was born September 17, 1924, in Erie, Pennsylvania. Julia was the middle child with an older sister, the late Mary Margaret and younger brother, the late Nicholas Schonthaler.
At age 3, Julia’s family moved from Erie, Pennsylvania to Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating from business school, she obtained employment at the Beau Brummel Tie Company. She was a seamstress and made ties for the U.S. Army during WW II.
On May 3, 1946 Julia married the man of her dreams, Paul S. Medley, in a civil ceremony in Covington, Kentucky. Julia is survived by two daughters, Debra Medley Pechacek (Ronald) of Cypress, Texas and Vicki Medley Voyles (Robert) of Martinsville, Indiana. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Katherine Coltharp Rhodes (William), Robert Coltharp, Troy Voyles, Staci Voyles, Rob Voyles (Brenda) and a great-grandson, Jason Voyles. In addition to her parents and siblings, Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on April 29, 2016 and grandson, Clinton Scott Voyles.
Julia loved bowling, playing golf, going to the zoo, and dining at her favorite restaurants. The main joy in Julia’s life was her “hubbie” Paul, her children, grandchildren and great grandson. They all loved “Grandma” and would talk and laugh and play cards “Shanghai” for hours. However, the best part of seeing Grandma and Grandpa were listening to the stories and watching the interaction of two people whose love lasted 70 years.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 p.m. February 11, 2017 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home – 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to service time. Entombment will follow services at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
