Shirley Ann Cole, age 76, of Martinsville, entered her Heavenly home on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. She was born on October 26, 1940 in Indianapolis to Zell C. and Lassie (Birdwell) Cross. Shirley graduated from Southport High School with the Class of 1958. She received her Master of Science degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She loved to make greeting cards, do crafts, bake and read. Shirley worked at Uniroyal, R.C.A., Lakeland Tackle, which was a family business; Cytec Industries and Clarian Health. Shirley was a 25 year member of the Southport Order of the Eastern Star # 442. Her humorous personality was cherished by all. She unselfishly shared her love through her baking. Shirley never knew a stranger and always had a listening ear and open heart.

Shirley married John W. Cole in Indianapolis on September 10, 1983 and he survives her along with her brother, Eddie L. (Donna) Cross; nephews, David (Jackie) Cross of Indianapolis and Rick Cross of Franklin; brothers-in-law, Harvey (Linda) Cole of Martinsville and Warren (Sheryl) Cole of Sullivan; sisters-in-law, Arlene (Jim) Boes of Sullivan, Jane Atherton of Orlando, FL, and Betty Cole of Plainfield; uncle Bill Birdwell of TN and Ms. Cross of AL; 2 great nieces and 1 great nephew; many loving cousins; best friend, Brenda J. Cook, and her furbabies, Snickers and Muffin. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy and George Cole.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
